Here’s how it works in Utah: once you sign your title over to CarLift Utah, we become responsible for the vehicle. We arrange a free tow anywhere in the Salt Lake Metro—from Sugar House, Rose Park, and Glendale to Sandy, West Valley City, and Bountiful—so the car never needs to be driven. You still receive a tax receipt for at least $500, and for donations valued over $500 we’ll provide the information you need for IRS Form 1098-C. After towing, you simply notify the Utah DMV that you’ve transferred the vehicle so future fees and liability no longer follow you. How to get your free pickup scheduled
1. Confirm you have the Utah title in your name
Find your Utah vehicle title and make sure your name matches your driver license. Don’t worry if the registration card is expired or missing. 2. Tell us about your expired‑registration vehicle online or by phone
Share a few basics: year, make, model, where the car is located, and that the registration is expired. Whether it’s parked in downtown Salt Lake, Millcreek, South Salt Lake, or West Jordan, we’ll quickly confirm eligibility and walk you through any Utah-specific title questions so you know exactly what to expect before pickup.
3. Schedule your free tow anywhere in the Salt Lake Metro
You do not need to renew the registration or drive the car. CarLift Utah arranges a professional towing company to pick it up at no cost to you—from your driveway, a street spot, or a storage lot. We tow across the metro, including areas like Holladay, Murray, Taylorsville, and surrounding communities, on a day and time that works for you.
4. Sign the title and hand over the keys at pickup
At towing, you’ll sign the Utah title over to CarLift Utah following our clear instructions. That signature is what transfers ownership, not your expired tags. The driver will take the vehicle, keys (if you have them), and any related paperwork. From that point on, CarLift Utah is responsible for the car, not you.
5. Receive your tax receipt and notify the Utah DMV
After the vehicle is processed, CarLift Utah sends you a tax receipt, typically showing at least a $500 value. If the final value is higher, you’ll use IRS Form 1098-C for your deduction. Then you simply complete a notice of transfer with the Utah DMV, so they know the car has been donated and you’re no longer liable for future fees or tickets.
