How the car donation process works
Start Your Salt Lake City Donation
Tell CarLift Utah about the vehicle you want to donate and where it is located in the Salt Lake Metro. You can donate many vehicle types, including cars, trucks, vans, SUVs, motorcycles, RVs, and some non-running vehicles. Donors often call because they want the vehicle to do more than sit unused in a driveway or garage. We collect basic details, answer your questions, and confirm that your donation will benefit Heritage for the Blind, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, EIN 58-2164446.
Schedule Free Local Pickup
Once your donation is accepted, free towing is arranged at a time that works for you. Pickup is available throughout Salt Lake City and nearby communities such as Murray, Holladay, South Salt Lake, Taylorsville, Cottonwood Heights, West Valley City, Sandy, South Jordan, and Draper. You do not need to deliver the vehicle yourself. A towing partner will come to the address you provide, collect the vehicle, and help complete the basic pickup paperwork so the donation can move forward smoothly.
Your Vehicle Is Sold to Create Charitable Proceeds
After pickup, the vehicle is prepared for sale through an appropriate resale or auction channel. The final sale price depends on the vehicle’s condition, market demand, mileage, age, and other practical factors. CarLift Utah does not promise a specific sale amount because that would not be honest or allowed. What matters is the charitable direction of the proceeds: 100-percent of vehicle proceeds go to Heritage for the Blind to support services for people who are blind or visually impaired.

Heritage for the Blind uses vehicle proceeds to help support services for Americans who are blind or visually impaired. That includes helping individuals understand and connect with government benefit programs that may improve stability and independence, such as SSI, SSDI, LIHEAP, Section 8, Medicare Extra Help, and Medicaid. Receive Tax Documentation After Sale
Because Heritage for the Blind, EIN 58-2164446, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, your donation may be tax-deductible if you itemize deductions. For vehicles that sell for more than $500, the deductible amount is generally the gross vehicle sale price, and donors receive IRS Form 1098-C.
